Is your card really doing the work YOU?

Have you ever received a compliment on your business card? Does your current card simply identify what you do at your business? Do you think people will do business with you by simply looking at your card? Is your card appealing?

If you answered no to any of those questions, I think you need to go through a business card upgrade.

Why?

Because a business card is one of the most cost-effective marketing tools any business can have, especially those starting out. Yet most people miss the opportunity to make a great impression by assuming a business card is just so people can have your number in case they need you. A business card is also a chance to make a great impression and promote your business in an appealing manner.

There is a good chance that if your card looks shoddy or unprofessional, people are going to assume that the quality of your work is just as unprofessional and your card may be thrown into the trash.

There are in fact a number of business cards out there that do not really stand out, and easily blend in with the rest.

Leave someone with a card that is appealing, clearly defines what your business does without looking like a checklist or like a grocery list

AVOID using these kinds of business cards:

1. The brandless, free ones from online print stores such as Vista Print. These cards are a way for Vista Print to promote their services; therefore your card will be advertising both your business and Vista Print.
2. The ones that simply state your name, phone number and company logo...Unless your company has a high name recognition rate, it will do you no good.
3. The ones with no website address. Let’s face it, people would much rather do their own research, rather than having to call you and waste their time hearing a sales pitch before they get to the real answer to their question

.
How can you improve your business cards?

Hire someone who has experience in marketing and design, who will help you get the most out of your card. Every business industry has a slightly different way of attracting customers, so there is no "one size fits all" when it comes to advertising your business. You want to take advantage of both the back and front of the card.  Of course, you want to keep one side of the card for contact information such as business name, phone number, email, website address and social contact details but give people a compelling reason to go and find out more.
